Husband and wife hiking duo John and Ellen Morgan have compiled some of Wisconsin’s best outdoor opportunities in a single book. This second edition includes 10 more hikes than the original, as well as expanded information on hikes included in the first version.
The 60 featured hikes are across the state, from Stockton Island on Lake Superior to the Kettle Moraine State Forest west of Milwaukee. Most trailheads are within an hour’s drive from cities and major highways. Many trails are also open in the winter for snow-shoeing and skiing. In addition to trail basics like difficulty and distance, the Morgans include information on geology, history, wildlife, and more. Whether you’re a city-dweller hoping to get into the woods for an afternoon or an avid outdoorsman set on section hiking the Ice Age Trail, this book is an excellent resource.
